The General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, Jiang Zemin, outlined some of the long-range objectives of the Chinese Communists in a speech he delivered to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the party. A summary of his speech in Beijing Review stated three long-range objectives of Red China’s Rulers. They are:
• To become the world’s leading economic power.
• To become the world’s leading military power.
• To strengthen the Chinese Communist Party and its dictatorial power
over the economic and military might of China.

“We cannot and must not ignore Taiwan. When I was at General Instrument Corporation we had some 5,000 employees in Taiwan, so I visited there over the years. And I have never ceased to be amazed at what the handful of people on that relatively small island have succeeded in doing. Taiwan’s accomplishments are indeed breathtaking.”
